Easter means...

It means it's time for my personal favorite...mom's pizza rustica! Buona Pasqua a tutti!

RIP Total Stranger

Last week I tweeted/f'booked about the cops knocking at my door and asking if I had heard anyone fighting outside the building the night before. Later that afternoon, post police visit, I was surprised to find my front door had police crime scene tape across it and the police had the sidewalk taped off with crime scene tape.

I asked the local corner deli if they knew anything. They told me some guy had hurt his head either by falling or possibly by getting into a fight. That guy was Sandy Thelamy.

I don't know what unfortunately happened to Sandy Thelamy the night before and I don't know Sandy.

Sandy is now dead. As it goes, his head was cracked open.

What I do know is I hear people outside my windows almost every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with their drunk courage/stupidity acting all hard, arguing, threatening and also harassing women. And let's be honest, the crowd that invariably comes to this hood on those nights is from uptown, the boroughs and jersey. LET ME REPEAT, LET'S BE HONEST! You know who goes out on a Friday, Saturday night in the LES getting hammered and for the most part it's not the locals. You wanna argue with that? Then meet me in front of my apartment building and take a god damn census this Friday.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this. Part of me feels sorry for Sandy and part of me doesn't know if he was part of the problem. So I guess I write this in the hopes that somewhere out there in the universe someone will hear my plea for all you dumb fucks to stop acting like a bunch of...dumb fucks. We all like to have a drink and have a good time but really? Cracking some guys skull open?! Like I said...dumb fucks.

Pray for rain.

Why?

To wash away the blood on the sidewalk.

In case you missed the news this Good Friday...

In response to the problems of the Roman Catholic church, the Vatican has added another stop to the Stations of the Cross procession.

Pictures $5

I made my way over to Pulse and Armory this weekend. Amidst all the art and all the crap that some people call art...the best deal was Rowan selling her prints for $5.00.

Good Book... I Lego N.Y.

Nostalgia and missing NYC = I Lego N.Y.

"During the cold and dark Berlin winter days, I spend a lot of time with my boys in their room. And as I look at the toys scattered on the floor, my mind inevitably wanders back to New York." -Christoph Neimann

His mind wanders... and creates something wonderful that I love.

Simplicity rules again.

Giving it your all.

Here's to two great artists giving their all:

1) photographer Jim Marshall for capturing an iconic moment.
2) Singer/musician Johhny Cash for giving us his all.

Happy Birthday Johhny!

Good Book....Voyeur

Sometimes you're a voyeur sometimes you're not. Who says which is which? That's the interesting thing about this simple, no text book. A journalism photo next to a photo that some may deem taboo. As you stare at the photos you may wonder "am I a voyeur or am I looking at a document of an interesting moment?" So...which is which? Is it both? Or are we over thinking the title and it's just a good collection of photos, a good book?

Go See...Kenneth Josephson

His photographs are one of the many reasons I was always fueled by this amazing medium.

"Throughout his career, from his days as a student at the Institute of Design through his years as a teacher at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Kenneth Josephson has explored the concepts of photographic truth and illusion.  Whether his works utilize a single negative, multiple exposures, collage, or a construction that is photographed, Josephson creates art that challenges our perspectives and invites us to consider different concepts of representation.   Josephson consistently frames these ideas with dynamic compositions and creates beautiful objects with seductive printing.  Yet, regardless of how exquisite his prints are or cerebral his ideas might be, Josephson consciously utilizes humor; for this is just art, and it is meant to be enjoyed." -Gitterman Gallery

Watch yer step.

I love NYC snow. It has it's own texture and color. Completely different from Chamoix or Snowbird.

But ya gotta be careful. One slip and...

Your friends will be visiting you in the hospital.

Movement and photography.

We're all guilty of trying to come up with the new great thing whether it's creative or monetary. And sometimes just a simple idea is all you need. Executed well as Denis Darzacq has here and simplicity rules.
